If you are that individual, seek God for guidance. Develop a "strong" prayer life!!! Stay in God's face constantly. In order to have a ministry of excellence, your walk with the Lord must be sincere. Your lifestyle should reflect Godly principles. You must be the bearer of good fruit. No one is perfect, but leaders who serve the Lord must strive to do the will of the Father and to exemplify Christ.

Ask the Lord what He wants for the ministry. There are different climates and visions for churches. Make sure it is the vision of your Pastor or Leader to have a ministry for children. Then seek specifics from God on how to work through the plan. When you have the go, get informed. The worse thing you can do is not have a action plan of being equipted to initiate a ministry. Get some training, research and always keep Biblical growth as part of your plan. Search out workshop, conferences, books, and websites that deal with effective Biblical teaching for children. Most of all use the Bible. What does God say about His children and how does he want them handled. God used children (Matthew. 19:14; Ephesians. 6:1; Proverbs 22:6)

ADMINISTRATIVE...do the work
Where to begin. How and what will you teach? The Word of course!!! That sounds simple, but it's a lot of work. The minds of our children are in a technological age and they can process information quickly. They can learn what you give them; however, it must be age appropriate. Infants can know the love of Jesus if you show them. Toddlers can learn the Books of the Bible if you teach them. Elementary age children can learn pretty much anything if you are consistant. So...the full Bible is open for teaching.

Write it down! Sometimes God will give you so many ideas they come in a flood. Some are to do now and some are to put on the back burner until He reveals the appropriate time. If you listen to God, you will know when. Start a "Ministry Work" notebook. List these areas along with other ones God will give you. Start a page that just has "self." Write down what you need to do personally to become a stronger person in the Lord and the leader you know God wants for the ministry. Don't get caught up in with where you are now, this is a process. As you develop the ministry, you will change and become more equipted to do what God wants you to do. Next, move to "administrative." Write down what you have and what you will need to develop the ministry. List all the ministry strengths and weaknesses (i.e., do you have the people to serve, do you have the space, etc.). Remember, where we are weak, God will show His strenghth.

Never give up! This is where your faith comes in. When ministry looks overwhelming, trust God. He will make provision for what is needed. Don't worry about resources, God owns it all. Pray for what you "need." It's great to have all the eye appealing stuff, but don't forget the true mission of what you are about to undertake and that's real ministry. The Gospel is free. I know you need a building and some general resources, have faith...God WILL provide.

THE TEAM
Now that you know what you will teach and the fundamentals, who will teach it. It is best to have a cohesive curriculum for a ministry when you have multiple teachers. This way, you can be sure to get a general message out. Children learn when there is a pattern and a plan to achieving a clear message from the Word.

Continued training

THE CHILDREN
Who will you teach and where will you do it.

THE FAMILY

PARENTS

How to Minister to the Family

Have a resource for parents.
